Day 1
Depart from Gauteng

On a early departure we will traveling via the lowveld on this 7-8 hours journey to our luxury accommodation in a lodge in the heart of the iSimangaliso wetland area, South Africa’s first World Heritage Site.

Day 2
Lake Sibaya

Lake Sibaya is tucked against forested coastal dunes, parallel to iSimangaliso’s coastline. At an estimated 7 750ha, Lake Sibaya is the largest of its type and has been listed as a RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance. Marine canyons offshore of Lake Sibaya and the presence of relict estuarine fauna suggest that the Lake was previously connected to the sea by a large river. Its pristine, crystal clear waters fringed by pure white sand are fed entirely by run-off from the high vegetated dunes reaching 165m. No rivers flow in or out of Lake Sibaya.

This also include a visit to the most splendid “Nine Mile Beach” The terrain is exclusively soft sand. On either side of the road dense coastal bush encroaches on the track and occasionally forms a cave-like canopy. Shortly after entering the reserve you’ll see a road that forks to the right, along with a sign that says Nine Mile Beach.

After spending some time on this endless beach you will be spoiled with lunch before our return to the lodge.

After Supper you will be spoiled on a organized beach drive around the low tide times, only in the evenings or late at night when the turtles emerge from the ocean to nest. Sometimes this occur in the early mornings and arragements will be done accordingly.

The Park is made up of a number of conservation areas, the oldest of which is the St Lucia Game Park, proclaimed in 1895. This area consists of the water body of the lake and the islands. A half mile wide boundary was added in 1939, known as St Lucia Park.

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first world heritage site, recognized for its superlative natural beauty, ecological processes and biodiversity covers 332 000 ha and includes a coastline of 230 km.
